Building Communities through Humanities Projects and Community Engagement

The Humanities Community-singers, dancers, religious leaders, historians, artists, poets, philosophers, educators, community leaders, visual artists, performing artists and others, are some of a community greatest assets. The Southern Machine will serve this community.

Community engagement is the number one goal for The Southern Machine. Through forums, workshops, panel discussions, town hall meetings, and other collaborative methods, The Southern Machine will plan and execute community-based humanities projects.

To sustain and grow its programs, communities must maintain sound financial policies. Therefore, fund raising and earn income activities are integral to its survival and growth.

The Black Christian Church and Historical Black Colleges and Universities are the Culture Foundation of the African-American Community

The African Methodist Episcopal Church, African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church, Christian Methodist Episcopal Church, National Baptist Convention, USA Inc., Church of God in Christ, National Baptist Convention of of American International, Inc, Progressive National Baptist Convention, Inc, Full Gospel Baptist Church Fellowship International are some of the major black church denominations. In addition there are many large and small independent black church.

Along with the black church, there are many Historical Black Colleges and Universities located primarily in the southern states. The Black Church and historical Black Colleges and Universities have played a leading role in education, arts and culture, social issues, and economic development in the African-American community.
